We’ll see the next-generation BMW 2-Series in two variations – the Coupe and the Gran Coupe. But, what is interesting, they will have different drivetrains.
The first two-door car (informally called the Drift Machine) will get a rear-wheel drive. The second will direct the power to front wheels and is to built on the BMW’s FAAR platform. The optinal xDrive is possible too.
In the photos of the Gran Coupe’s mule in camouflage the front brake calipers put ahead of the axle center indicate availability of the front-wheel drive, which requires the steering rack to be located behind the axle. With the rear wheel drive all is vice versa: the steering rack is ahead and the brake calipers are behind.
We’re waiting with enthusiasm what becomes of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe.
