The company was founded 103 years ago. Today Mazda is associated with rotary engines, KODO design, Skyactive engines, reliable and durable cars. All vehicles of the brand are good, but there are historical models on which Mazda’s high reputation is built.

The Mazda Cosmo Sport (offered for export as the Cosmo 110S) was a halo vehicle, one of the most technologically advanced at that time, and one of the most powerful cars in its class.

It was the first Mazda to use a rotary engine from the Wankel series. Under the hood, the Cosmo 110S had a 982cc twin-rotor engine that made 110 horsepower. Moreover, a sleek futuristic design made the car special,

The final generation served as Mazda’s flagship in Japan and was marketed under the Eunos Cosmo name.

That was a true luxury car and the only production vehicle of the brand with a twin-turbo three-rotor engine instead of a two-rotor one used as standard on other Mazdas.

The Eunos Cosmo featured a premium leather interior, active suspension, and an innovative embedded navigation system. Nevertheless, the model had a significant disadvantage – its high price. Consequently, it didn’t sell particularly well, which, however, does not negate its significance.

Mazda RX-7 (1978-2002)

The Mazda RX-7 is a front-engine rear-wheel-drive 2-door sports coupe, a top-seller, and one of the all-time icons. It had three generations, and each new iteration of the model offered a power boost over its predecessor,

Every new generation came with a compact lightweight Wankel rotary engine: the 1st with a 12A engine with 105, 115, and 165 hp, the 2nd with a turbocharged 13B producing 185 and 205 hp, and the 3rd had a 13B- REW variant (first series twin-turbo exported from Japan). The last one delivered 265 hp, and Mazda eventually boosted its power to 280 hp.

The RX-7 has achievements in motorsport: as a rally car, it participated in prestigious championships, like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Rally Championship, and others.

Mazda RX-8 (2003-2012)

This 4-seater quad coupe is the successor to the RX-7. The car sums up the automaker’s unconventional take on things even more effectively than the RX-7. It offered a new, super-smooth 1.3-liter Renesis rotary engine with either manual or automatic transmission options.

Its practical 4-seat cabin with clever rear half doors was an obvious advantage over the RX-7’s interior, The car’s great steering and chassis balance are worth praising as well.

Unfortunately, Mazda had to discontinue the RX-8 in Europe in 2010 and in 2 years in Japan because of failure to meet emission standards. However, the model remains one of Mazda’s most fun-to-drive cars,

It is impossible to talk about Mazda without remembering the MX-5 Miata: this is a cult model, one of the most popular ever, and the clearest evidence that Mazda is a maker of cool affordable sports cars.

The Miata is a quintessential roadster: lightweight, agile, dependable, and incredibly fun to drive. Over the years, it is a winner of countless races, championships, and Best Car awards. Besides, the car is a two-time Guinness World Record holder – in 2000 as the best-selling 2-seat sports car in history, and in 2006 as a one-millionth car.

The latest fourth-generation MX-5 Miata is the most advanced. In addition to tweaks and new techs, including a revised highly responsive suspension, it still offers a manual gearbox.

Since its launch, this compact crossover has become Mazda’s best-selling model worldwide. It is also Mazda’s first model to feature the “Kodo” design language and Skyactiv technologies.

The CX-5 combines stylish exteriors with well-equipped interiors and excellent driving dynamics. It is powered by fuel-efficient 2.5-liter Skyactiv inline 4-cylinder engines. The model deserves to be a top pick if you shop for a small SUV.

The current 2023 Mazda CX-5 is a good value: it is well-rounded and offers a premium interior and near-luxe transportation. One of the latest ‘conquests’ of the model is the Best Compact SUV for the Money award from U.S. News and World Report.
