The Audi RS6 Avant will enter the markets of the USA and Canada for the first time in Audi Sport’s quarter-century history.
In a year or even earlier, this sports wagon will hit America: after its launch in Europe, it comes to the USA as a 2020 model in the 1st or 2nd quarter next year. Audi of America insisted on the RS6 Avant arrival, believing in its good US prospects.
A twin-turbo 4.0-liter 8-cylinder engine powers the performance wagon, together with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, whose belt-driven motor/generator can recoup up to 12 kW during regenerative braking (stored then in a battery).
The power output is 591 hp, the torque is 590 lb-ft. A standard 8-speed automatic gearbox with a launch-control function sends torque to a permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds. A base model speeds up to max 155 mph. The top speed achieves 174 mph with the standard Dynamic package, and 190 mph with the Dynamic Package Plus.
Front doors, a roof, and a tailgate are inherited from the base A6 Avant, othee parts are RS-specific ones. The body is 3.1-inch wider and 0.8-inch lower than the A6 Avant’s. 21-inch 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels are standard, 22-inch 5-spoke ones are optional.
The Audi RS6 Avant’s interior features upscale materials including Nappa and Valcona leather, Alcantara. Audi’s MMI dual-touchscreen system, Virtual Cockpit digital dashboard, an RS Monitor display bring safety, infotainment and technical (torque, output, boost pressure) functions.
Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Efficiency driving modes are offered, along with a pair of individually configurable RS modes.
