Audi Q9 Will Come to Rival BMW X7

Audi is currently testing its upcoming luxury SUV. The prototype of the brand’s new flagship has been captured by spy photographers.

The Audi Q9 crossover (a presumable name of the new flagship), will become the main competitor to the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. The French magazine L`Automobile has published the first spy photos of the new product. Expect the Q9 to be 10-15 cm (3.9-5.9 inches) longer than the current Q7.

The huge rear overhang suggests not only a significant payload but a likely 7-seater configuration with significant legroom for third-row passengers. Journalists say the first prototypes used the Volkswagen Atlas body, but this is not so important. The main thing is to make the production vehicle look not like a big Audi Q7 but a unique model.

It’s too early to talk about engines, but a hybrid powertrain should be offered. When it comes to conventional engines, Audi has no shortage of offerings. In particular, one of the options could be a gasoline V8 4.0 TFSI with 507 horsepower.

The Q9 is likely to have an air suspension and all needed to make a vehicle of this size efficient on the road, from steerable rear wheels to active roll control.

The USA may become the main market for the Audi Q9. The new flagship will be possibly sold in China and the Middle East. In any case, the debut of this giant won’t take place before 2023.
