Audi is preparing a number of serious updates for the A4 sedan and the A4 Avant wagon. It will not be a change of generations, but a significant restyling.
Audi has recently updated the A4. It is a slight facelift. However, the automaker now intends to make a revision for the 2020 model.
Prototypes, as we previously mentioned, has caught the eyes of photo spies during winter tests. In particular, the A4 Avant wagon, judging by the disquise, will receive a set of restyled lights and bumpers, a wider lower grille and a new design of the diffuser.
We expect a lot of new inside. The A4 will apparently inherit some options from the latest A6. It is about a new layout of the infotainment system, as well as some autopilot functions.
The powertrain will unlikely change. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines operate with the conventional 12-volt system. An improved 48V electrical system will be used in six-cylinder motors to increase their efficiency.
Why is Audi making such a large restyling? The current A4 was introduced not so long ago – in the fall of 2015. Little time has passed for a change of generations. The carmaker fears that the model will be inferior to its main competitors – the updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class and especially the new-generation BMW 3-Series.
Let’s not forget about the Jaguar XE and Alfa Romeo Giulia. They are also waiting for restyling soon. Therefore, Audi should be ahead of its direct rivals by a number of criteria, the 48-volt mild-hybrid system is among them.
The 2020 Audi A4 will debut next year, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show
