All-New Volkswagen Taigo Already Available At German Dealers

The Volkswagen Taigo with a sloping, coupe-like roof has begun arriving at Volkswagen’s European dealership network. The starting price of the new crossover in Germany is €19,350.

The automaker says the Volkswagen Taigo is a completely new model. In general, this is true, but there is a strong impression that we look at an updated Volkswagen T-Roc made up to look like a coupe. However, this is subjective and biased.

By the way, the Taigo is somewhat longer (4,270 versus 4,234 mm), slightly narrower (1,757 versus 1,819 mm) and noticeably lower (1,494 versus 1,573 mm) than the T-Roc.

The Taigo is much cheaper than the T-Roc. In Germany, the starting price is 19,350 euros. The Volkswagen T-Roc starts at 23,495 euros. Even a ‘junior’ Volkswagen T-Cross is more expensive than the Taigo: from 20,240 euros.

Volkswagen Taigo engines

The Taigo is only available with front-wheel drive, which is probably rational. Its power lineup includes three engines: a three-cylinder 1.0 TSI with 95 or 110 hp, and a four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with a maximum output of 150 hp. You can order a 7-speed DSG transmission to mate to the 1.5 TSI. In other cases, the engines are combined with a manual gearbox.

The buyers were offered four configurations. The top-end R-Line features a lower front bumper, a rear diffuser, 18-inch wheels, LED matrix headlights, Ready 2 Discover multimedia, heated front seats.

The company names the Digital Cockpit as the centerpiece of the Taigo’s interior, as well as the next-generation infotainment system (MIB) with a 20-cm (8.0-inch) high-resolution display. Both come as standard.

Note that small Volkswagen crossovers are selling very well in Europe. So, the T-Roc sales since the beginning of the year have amounted to almost 156,000 units, the T-Cross – 111,000. Moreover, the demand for both models has grown by 22% compared to the same period last year.

For comparison: 120,000 Europeans have purchased the worldwide popular Volkswagen Tiguan in 2021, and nearly 25,000 Tiguan Allspace 7-seaters have been sold.
