Toyota has announced the official launch of its all-new Land Cruiser today, on August 2, 2021.

At present, about 10.6 million Land Cruisers are on the roads in 170 countries worldwide. This month, the popular SUV is celebrating its anniversary.

To commemorate the date, Toyota hosted an online event “70th Land Cruiser Day,” on August 1, 2021 – exactly 70 years after the model launch. The event can be seen on the Official Land Cruiser YouTube channel.

Also, in celebration of the 70 years jubilee, Toyota Gazoo Racing will reproduce so-called “heritage parts” – engines, drivelines, exhaust systems for the 40 Series Land Cruiser. That model was in production between 1960 and 1984. The parts will be available at selected dealers early next year.

New Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series

This is a complete redesign of the outgoing 200 Series. The company evolved the model’s reliability, durability, and off-road performance. Toyota retained the same frame structure but allied it with a new GA-F platform based on the TNGA philosophy.

The Land Cruiser 300 Series is lower, 20 percent more rigid, 200 kg (441 pounds) lighter. The SUV has better front-rear weight distribution and a newly developed suspension with a new Linear Solenoid Adaptive Variable Suspension system.

The features to improve steering stability, maneuverability, off-road durability/driving are:

  • Hydraulic power steering with steering actuator
  • Electronic Control Brake
  • Rear Torsen Limited Slip Differential
  • Multi Terrain Select
  • Multi Terrain Monitor
  • 12.3-inch display with off-road display function

Powertrain

There are two engine choices:

  • a newly developed 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gasoline engine with maximum output of 305 kW (415 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque
  • an efficient 3.3-liter V6 twin-turbo diesel engine with maximum output of 227 kW (309 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

A 10-speed automatic transmission Direct Shift 10AT guarantees instinctive and powerful acceleration.

Exterior, Interior, Techs

The new 300 Series combines an exterior focused on off-road performance with a user-friendly interior that balances comfort and convenience.

One of the ‘goodies’ is a hands-free back door. It enables drivers who carry a Smart Key to automatically open and close the back door by placing their feet under the rear bumper.

Another interesting feature is a fingerprint sensor in the center of the start switch – for the first time on a Toyota vehicle.

The model adopts the latest Toyota Safety Sense active safety package with additional innovative functions. Аmong other things, the package includes Parking Support Brake, Plus Support to control acceleration, Camera Wash Function, Blind Spot Monitor, ITS Connect for the host vehicle to communicate with other cars and road infrastructure.

Toyota added two new safety functions. The first detects oncoming vehicles at intersections and oncoming pedestrians crossing the street when the vehicle is turning in either direction. The second is an emergency steering assist function, which triggers when the driver performs a steering maneuver to avoid a collision.

Trim Levels, Domestic Prices

The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series is available in GX, AX, VX, GR Sport and ZX trim levels. Prices in Japan start from 5,100K yen (approx. 46,580 USD) for the GX model and go to 8,000K yen (approx. 73,067 USD) for the Land Cruiser GR Sport.

The company has scheduled the unveiling events at dealers on August 21-22, 2021.
