Blue Oval has announced the premiere of the 2022 Ford Maverick.
Like the Hyundai Santa Cruz or Honda Ridgeline, this new compact pickup will have a unibody structure. The carmaker will unveil the new product on Tuesday, June 8 at 6 a.m. Eastern Time on actress Gabrielle Union’s personal Instagram and TikTok accounts, Hulu, and on Ford’s social media channels.
The Maverick is smaller and cheaper than the Ford Ranger, shares the С2 platform with the Bronco Sport and Escape. If the promised cost of under $20,000 is true, the model will be Ford’s most affordable pickup. The Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico is chosen to be an assembly site for the Maverick. Production should start in July.
An independent rear suspension and an all-wheel-drive option should be available, as well as standard front-wheel drive. The engine choices we expect are a base 1.5L EcoBoost I-3 or an optional 2.0L EcoBoost I-4, both with an 8-speed AT.
Next week we’ll know all the details.
