Autocar has picked out the models which automakers decided to discontinue. The year of 2020 has become the last one for them – if not globally, then in some markets.
Several vehicles from the 25 are replaced by a new generation of the same model, a few ones are ceased to give way to SUVs, electric cars or a combination of both.
The Suzuki Jimny (upper picture) is still on sale in many world markets. But the company stopped offering this nice model in the UK and Europe.
Aston Martine replaces the Rapide with the DBX. The Bentley Mulsane and the BMWi8 have no direct replacements, so this is the end of an era.
The Buick Cascada ends in the UK and Europe. Cadillac discontinues the CT6 and turns over the Hamtramck plant in Detroit (the site of the CT6 production) to EV production.
In 2020, an all-new Cadillac Escalade Mk5 replaces the previous generation. Cadillac isn’t offering a sole gasoline V8 engine now; there’s also a straight-six diesel.
The first Volkswagen Beetle arrived in 1945; then there was continuous production. In 2020, Volkswagen no longer sells a Beetle for the first time in its history.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class changes a generation this year. The next-gen model will go on sale in early 2021.
Mercedes axed the Nissan Navara-based X-Class pickup by summer 2020. It wasn’t special enough to justify the high price.
The Chevrolet Cruze was discontinued in Europe in 2016, in the USA – in 2019, in China – in 2020. It is still avialable in South America.
This year, Chevrolet also ceases the Impala sedan to focus on building SUVs instead.
The Chevy Sonic (Aveo in Europe) was revised in 2016. It could last till 2020 in the United States, while had been already ceased in many other markets.
The new-generation Honda Jazz has arrived in 2020 to replace the previous-gen model, and this new car is much better that the predecessor.
The new-gen Subaru BRZ Mk2 starts in 2021. Subaru reserves the model largely for the USA.
The Infiniti Q30 and QX30 will be available in the U.S., but ended for Europe in 2020.
