The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will most likely debut on September 15, 2022, as teased in a video the automaker posted online a few days ago. So, what can we say about the newcomer now?
A teaser video with the announcement of the world premiere of a Subaru new SUV has recently appeared on the Internet. Everyone unanimously decided this is the new-generation Subaru Crosstrek, as its general outlines and stature hint at that exact model. The event will happen in the middle of this month.
The teaser reveals headlights and taillights similar to ones on Subaru’s latest models, and a crossbar with a Subaru logo that runs across a grille’s upper part.
It all may be that after the online presentation on Sept. 15, the new Subaru Crosstrek will make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2022. Everything connected with the Crosstrek is of interest: it is Subaru’s bestseller in America, and it is a global model.
Availability
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek should arrive in U.S. showrooms in summer 2023, with orders to open next spring.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is finally coming as well. It is expected to go into production in spring 2023, and be available to U.S. customers in late summer – early fall 2023.
What’s New
We don’t expect major changes to the model’s powertrains, except for some upgrades to Subaru’s 2.0- and 2.5-liter BOXER engines to improve their fuel efficiency.
The next Crosstrek Hybrid should keep its 2.0-liter engine and Toyota hybrid tech and may be more widely represented in North American dealerships.
The next-gen model will slightly grow in size, become roomier inside, adopt the Subaru Global Platform with a new inner frame structure, and receive an enhanced safety pack.
Our Take
The Subaru Crosstrek is a good subcompact SUV that is able to handle rough terrain and, at the same time, feel good in confined urban spaces.
Its advantages include standard all-wheel drive, hill descent control, comparatively high ground clearance, and decent towing capability, as well as balanced ride and handling.
Though its cabin is roomy and comes with a straightforward infotainment system, it is boring.
There are more upmarket and spacious interiors with better cargo hold in the class, like the ones of the Honda HR-V or the Kia Seltos.
When it comes to driving pleasure, again, there are better choices, like the Mazda CX-30. The Crosstrek’s anemic base engine is rather the vehicle’s weak point.
The current 2023 model doesn’t offer any driver-assistance aids as standard, other than a rearview camera. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek should be significantly better in this respect.
