The fully new 2023 Toyota Prius and Prius Prime have debuted at a kickoff event on the eve of the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The 2023 Toyota Prius is the company’s first to wear a new “Beyond Zero” badge that marks a global effort to achieve carbon neutrality in production. It is also the most fuel-efficient Prius ever with 57 mpg combined according to estimates.
The new car is available in LE, XLE, and Limited trim levels. It sits on the second-generation TNGA-C platform that features a low center of gravity, reduced weight, and increased rigidity. This results in a lower driving position and a wider stance.
Toyota increased engine and battery output in addition to enhanced acceleration feel and handling.
A new, more refined 5th generation hybrid system of the 2023 Toyota Prius comprises a larger 2.0-liter engine with 194 hp (FWD models) and 196 hp (AWD models) and a newly developed lithium-ion battery (15% more output).
When it comes to the new Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, its electric range increased by over 50 percent, and horsepower increased by almost 100 hp to 220 hp.
The 0-60 mph acceleration now takes 7.2 seconds (26% improvement) for the front-wheel drive Prius. In its turn, the all-wheel drive Prius needs 7.0 seconds to speed up from a standstill to 60 mph, and the Prius Prime’s 0-60 time is 6.6 seconds now.

Normal, Eco, and Sport modes with increased drive force are available for the new-gen model.
For the next Toyota Prius and Prius Prime, the automaker raised connectivity, convenience, and safety to a higher level. Available features include 6 Type-C USB ports in the cabin, and a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system that allows a number of Wi-Fi Connect features like SiriusXM Platinum or Integrated Streaming.
Besides, the Prius received a JBL Premium Audio system with 8 speakers, Over-the-Air (OTA) updates capability, and Connected Service Drive Connect tech to access Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant, and Destination Assist.
Among the convenience features, there is a Panoramic View Monitor and an Advanced Park hands-free system.
The latest-generation Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite is available for the model including a new Proactive Driving Assist that provides gentle braking at curves and gentle steering to help support distance control.
The 2023 Toyota Prius’s pricing and on-sale date will be announced later this year.

UPDATE of 17.12.2022: The new Toyota Prius will be available in six different colors. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price excluding a destination charge starts at $27,450 for the LE trim. The model will appear in dealer showrooms in January 2023.
