2023 Toyota GR Corolla Will Come with AWD, not Electrified

According to the latest insider info, the hot Toyota GR Corolla will share an engine with the GR Yaris, and won’t use the brand’s hybrid technology.

We should not expect the model earlier than 2023. When it finally arrives, the GR Corolla will sit above the GR Yaris – as it larger and pricier alternative, filling the gap between the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Hyundai Veloster N, at the same time.

What can we say now about the upcoming model?

The Toyota GR Corolla will be based on a Corolla four-door hatchback, rather than a sedan version (in the photo).

The gasoline 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine making about 261 hp will power the car. Electrification is not in the pipeline, according to Autocar’s sources.

It is quite possible that the model will receive a permanent all-wheel-drive system with a rear bias, as well as a limited-slip differential. The front-wheel drive may remain too.

And, certainly, Toyota will upgrade the chassis, add exterior and interior improvements to enhance sportiness.
