The automaker has announced pricing for the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla hatchback.
The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla was introduced in March 2022, and now the base model is one step away from reaching U.S. dealers’ showrooms.
Pricing ranges from $36,995 to $50,995 across three trim levels – Core, Circuit, and a limited-run (only 200 units) Morizo Edition. The last two will be available in 2023, unlike the Core that comes still this year.
In addition, there are several packages customers can choose at extra pay: a $770 Technology Package, a $500 Cold Weather Package, and a $1,180 Performance Package.
All GR Corollas come with a track-tested turbocharged 1.6-liter 3-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
The unit is mated exclusively to a 6-speed manual transmission and a GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. Besides, there are various performance features – the higher the trim level, the more solid the set of options is.
Competition
The Toyota GR Corolla is a decent rival to other hot hatchbacks, such as the recently revealed 2023 Honda Civic Type R, the 2022 Hyundai Veloster N, and the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R.
The Volkswagen model is the one that matches closer to the GR Corolla’s specs. It sends 315 hp and up to 295 lb-ft to all four wheels, and only up to 50% of max. torque to the rear, while the Toyota vehicle sends 40%, 50%, or 70% of the engine’s grunt to the rear wheels.
Though the Gold R is more expensive than the GR Corolla, it is generally a friendlier choice for the daily ride in city traffic. Unlike the Toyota, the VW car is offered with either a manual or a quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic transmission.
