A new limited-run Special Edition marks the 40th model year of the Toyota 4Runner. It will be available in 4,040 examples in the USA.
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition is a four-wheel-drive-only model based on the SR5 Premium grade. It comes in White, Midnight Black Metallic, or Barcelona Red Metallic color.
The distinctive features of this version include 17-inch alloy wheels and a 40th Anniversary exterior tailgate badge – bronze-colored ones, a Toyota heritage grille colored like the body, and retro-inspired yellow/orange/red body heritage graphics.
In the cabin, there is an exclusive badging on the center console, a standard power moonroof, and bronze-colored elements (seat stitching, a shift knob). The seats are trimmed in Black SofTex. The interior also has a 40th Anniversary logo and 40th Anniversary floor mats.
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is powered by a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine that produces 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque in conjunction with a 5-speed ECT-i automatic transmission.
The gearbox features a sequential shift mode for manual shifting when necessary. The engine’s Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps optimize torque across the engine’s operating range.
All 4Runners can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds.
