2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Goes On Sale In November

The new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV starts at $39,845 (MSRP) and reaches U.S. dealerships in November 2022.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s start of sales has been announced by Mitsubishi Motors North America. The base price is $41,190, destination inclusive.

The model is the brand’s bestseller. Mitsubishi states that the 2023 Outlander plug-in hybrid is the most advanced and best-equipped vehicle the company has ever offered. The bold exterior design is complemented by a comfortable and luxurious interior for up to seven occupants (in the photo).

Our Take on the Mitsubishi Outlander

The model is a decent compact SUV, one of few in the segment offering three rows of seats for up to 7. The 1st and 2nd-row seats are roomy. The 3rd row is cramped, but at least it is there.

Owners can benefit from premium cabin materials, an eco-friendly infotainment system, a lot of standard tech and safety features, balanced ride and handling, a large cargo area, and good fuel economy.

The drawback is the SUV’s transmission (CVT): it is good in the city but mediocre at high speeds. Moreover, if you expect zippy acceleration, the Mitsubishi Outlander should not be your choice, and you’d better consider the Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V.

New Pricing

The model goes on sale in November. On Oct. 13, 2022, the carmaker announced full trim-by-trim pricing for the 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, and it is the following (incl. the destination and handling charge of $1,345): ES – $41,190, SE – $43,490, SE w/ Tech Package – $45,490, SEL – $46,790, SEL Touring – $48,990, SEL Premium – $49,490, 40th Anniversary Edition – $51,340.

Battery

Compared to the predecessor, the new model’s electric-only range of 38 miles is 40 percent longer. This is accessible due to a 350-volt, 20-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The combined electric-gasoline range is 420 miles.

You can charge the vehicle from a Level 1 or 2 wall charger or via the engine’s Charge Mode. The crossover has an onboard DC fast charger enabling 80% capacity in 38 min.

Powertrain

A 2.4-liter MIVEC 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle gasoline engine is mated to two electric motors, more powerful than before, one to drive the front axle and the other to drive the rear wheels.

They are parts of a new-gen twin-motor Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system whose total output is 248 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes with an expanded 14.8-gallon fuel tank and features a 64 MPGe rating.
