Next year Mercedes will present its second EQ model – the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS built on a new platform
The new flagship EV is a liftback. It will join the Mercedes-Benz EQC in the electric lineup of the brand.
The counterpart to the new-gen S-Class probably arrives in 2020 as a 2021 model after the debut of the latter. The EQS will sit on the Modular Electric Architecture designed for EVs.
Its bodywork will use aluminum. We suppose there will be all-wheel drive, two electric motors, one per axle, producing over 400 hp in total, a battery or batteries put under the floor to provide a driving range of 300 miles (483 km).
Recently spies have photographed the model for the first time. Though it is in camouflage and has false exhausts, an egg-shaped silhouette reveals a vehicle different from current Mercedes cars.
What draws attention in the photos first of all?
Frameless door windows, a massive sunroof, pop-out door handles, a large hatch at the rear instead of a conventional S-Class’s trunk, a long wheelbase, no cameras in place of rearview mirrors, what is strange enough…
Expect a distinctive front facia, futuristic interior, many hi-tech features including semi-autonomous ones.
We know no pricing, no on-sale dates for the moment, as well as the possible modifications. Will the company ever launch an AMG or a Maybach version? We’ll see.
