2021 Audi Q5 Facelift Arrives In Q4, Adds New Hybrid Powertrain

The 2021 Audi Q5 and SQ5 have got significant cosmetic changes and a new mild hybrid version.

There will be a standard mild hybrid an optional plug-in hybrid version for the Q5 in the Unites States.


The grille is larger and subtler, with standard LED high and low beams and a more intricate design of daytime running lights.

The new U.S.-spec SQ5’s taillights boast OLED technology with four selectable designs.

Audi’s innovative Matrix LED technology is available on the Q5 for the first time on the Prestige trim. This trim also gets dynamic front turn signals and “leaving home” head/taillight animations.

An “advanced line” exterior package is standard. It includes vertical chrome grille bars, silver accents in front, and Allroad-like rear bumpers.

The S-Line exterior package is optional. It includes an aggressive hexagonal grille texture, bold air intakes, a front gloss black “skid plate”.

New 18-, 19-, or 20-inch wheel designs are available.


The new mild hybrid powertrain comes standard for the 2021 Audi Q5. It comprises a low-voltage belt starter generator and a 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine. The total system output is 261 hp (195 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. A 12V battery gets energy which the system recaptures on coasting and braking.

A plug-in hybrid 362-hp (270 kW) 369-lb-ft Audi Q5 will be also on offer, with an electric motor, the 2.0-liter turbo-four, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a 14.1-kWh.


The electric-only range is 20 mi. The S-Line package is standard on the PHEV, the Sport Plus package is optional.

The Audi SQ5 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-six that delivers 349 hp (260 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), mated to standard Quattro all-wheel drive and the 7-speed DCT. Adaptive dampers and a height-adjustable air suspension are in the list of available features.

Safety, Infotainment  

Lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring are now offered for the base trim (Premium).

For higher-end trims (Premium Plus, Prestige) adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping, a top-view camera join the standard Audi Pre Sense City suite.

Apple CarPlay, Audi’s latest MIB 3 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen are standard for the new Q5.

The Premium Plus and Prestige cars get an all-digital Audi Virtual Cockpit. Inside, you’ll find walnut inlays, leather seating, contrast stitching and several piano black accents.

The 2021 Audi Q5 starts at $43,300 in the USA, the plug-in hybrid costs from $51,900 ($1,000 cheaper than before). The 2021 Audi SQ5’s new price is $52,900.

Audi builds the Q5 at the San José Chiapa plant in Mexico. The model will come to international markets in the fall of 2020. The starting price in Germany for the Q5 40 TDI is 48,700 euros.
