Spy shots of the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, a coupe-like crossover, have recently leaked onto the Internet. It is a ready-to-production version with no camouflage.
A Chinese website published some images of the white-colored vehicle, which looks similar to the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept. The company presented in at the 2018 New York Motor Show.
There are new bumpers and a radiator grille. The Atlas Cross Sport has a sleeker fascia and more rounded overall appearance in comparison with the 7-seat Atlas/Terramont (on sale in the USA and China).
A fastback-styled tailgate will probably be the most remarkable change that makes this version different from the standard one. The taillights look unrevised. The wheels seem to be less massive than those on the concept.
The exterior design in general is close to the concept car. The interior will most likely be the same as in the concept.
We expect the same motor range for the Cross Sport modification as that of the Atlas for the U.S. Plus plug-in hybrid and optional mild-hybrid variants are possible.
The engines are gasoline/petrol ones: a 2.0-liter 238-hp (350 Nm) turbo and a 3.6-liter 208-hp (361 Nm) V6. The latter in pair with two electric motors and a dual-clutch DSG transmission can deliver overall 390 horsepower.
On the concept VW utilizes a 18-kWh battery providing a 42-km electric driving range. It could carry over to the Cross Sport version as part of the hybrid powertrain.
VW claimed a top speed of 209 km/h for the concept, so it may be the same for the Atlas Cross Sport.
The company will produce this version at the plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee (USA). Later on after a debut early next year, the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport goes on sale in the United States and China.
