2020 Toyota Highlander Debuts At the 2019 New York Auto Show

Toyota is presenting the next-generation 3-row 2020 Toyota Highlander to press at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.

The fourth-generation Highlander is showcased at the motor show in New York taking place on April 17-18 (press days) and on April 19-28 (days for the public), 2019. The model is Toyota’s best-seller, the segment leader since 2016 in North America. The new Highlander takes on a dramatic new design direction that combines power with sophisticated details.

It is built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) and offers a choice between a powerful gasoline 295-hp 3.5-liter V6 (263 lb-ft of torque) or a new-generation hybrid powertrain. The latter combines a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with 2 electric motors.

Manufacturer-estimated combined fuel economy of the first is 22mpg, of the second – 34mpg vs previous 28mpg (EPA-rated).

The vehicle uses a direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission. On V6 models, the available towing package enables a 5,000-pound towing capacity.

The 2020 model is the most fuel-efficient Toyota Highlander Hybrid ever. The total output produced by the hybrid system is 240 hp. The hybrid modification offers selectable Normal, Eco, Sport and a bonus EV mode allowing electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances. The small battery pack is installed under the rear seats.

The new-gen Toyota Highlander is available either with front-wheel drive or three different all-wheel drive systems — two for the V6 models and a unique AWD system for the Highlander Hybrid.

The second-generation Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (suite of active safety technologies) comes standard in the 2020 Toyota Highlander.

The carmaker offers 5 trim levels for the new Highlander:  L, LE, XLE, Limited and range-topping Platinum. Alloy wheels choices are 18-inch, 20-inch Limited style, 20-inch Platinum style ones.

The SUV offers cutting-edge entertainment and connectivity for all ages through its intuitive and versatile multimedia system, including a new 12.3-inch touchscreen display for Platinum and 8-inch for other trims. A new JBL Premium Sound System is available.

In addition, Toyota Highlander models include some features for optimal on- and off-road performance and safety: Hill Start Assist Control, Trailer Sway Control, Downhill Assist Control.

The vehicle arrives in dealerships in December this year (gasoline Highlander) and in February 2020 (hybrid version). The current model’s retail price in the US car market is $31,530-48,830: the gas SUV starts from
$31,530, the Highlander Hybrid – from $37,170. The new-generation car shouldn’t cost much more.
