A long-awaited 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is officially presented. Much attention is drawn to the model, given the fact it is the first-ever Corvette with a mid-engine layout.
After rumors, teasers, expectations, the all-new Chevy Corvette C8 Stingray coupe has been unveiled at the event in California. It has got outstanding performance.
First of all, it’s about a new 6.2-liter V8 engine delivering 495 hp (369 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque, when equipped with performance exhaust.
The unit works in pair with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (the manual one won’t be available). Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes about 3.0 seconds.
Thanks to several leaks before, now we’re not surprised with the car’s exterior too much. The new vehicle is a clear successor of the previous models. Its Corvette family affiliation is fully visible.
As for the interior, it is also impressive. It features a unique two-spoke steering wheel and a 12-inch digital dashboard. The front panel and console seem to ‘embrace’ the driver, letting him focus on the road.
In general, the new Corvette C8 is more advanced than ever. The use of aluminum and carbon fiber made it possible to achieve a total weight of 1,530 kg, while the mid-engine layout should help improve handling.
As claimed, the Corvette C8’s price will be below $60,000. It is much lower than that of the closest competitors – the BMW i8 ($136,000) or the Honda NSX ($157,500).
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible is also expected (a soft- or hard-top one, who knows). Its premiere will likely take place in coming months.
