The 2020 BMW X6 arrives on a new CLAR platform shared with the X5. It grew in length and width, became more powerful and high-tech than ever before. The range-topping X6 M50i model got BMW’s new twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine delivering up to 530 hp. American prices will start from $65,295.
BMW has presented the next BMW X6. The official public premiere will take place in Frankfurt in the fall of 2019, with the market entry following in November. BMW produces X6s at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States, along with other X models.
A base X6 sDrive40i costs from $65,295 ($750 over the current X6’s price). A version with all-wheel drive is priced at $67,595. A top BMW X6 M50i starts from $86,645.
The new BMW X6 is longer and wider than its predecessor, has a wider front track and a lower center of gravity. The wheelbase increased by 42 mm. Its prominent exterior element is a large single-frame illuminated kidney grille.
The new car comes with LED headlights as standard.
The rear part looks more athletic with powerful shoulders accentuated by L-shaped LED rear lights. The tailgate is integrated almost invisibly into the vehicle’s horizontal lines.
19-inch alloy wheels come standard (20-inch ones are optional). The 21-inch wheels are standard for the M50i and M50d versions.
The new BMW X6 is available from launch in xLine and M Sport model variants with their own design cues as alternatives to the regular car.
Inside the X6 comes standard with Vernasca leather upholstery and electrically adjustable, heated sport seats. Multifunction seats are optional.
The trunk is 580 liters or 1,525 liters with rear seats folded.
The entry-level sDrive40i and xDrive40i models are equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo motor delivering 340 hp (33 hp over the predecessor’s figure) and 330 lb-ft (447 Nm) of torque. They accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.4 and 5.5 seconds respectively.
A more powerful X6 M50i model gets BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine which produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque, 78 hp more than before.
It takes 4.3 seconds to accelerate to 62 mph. The top speed is 155 mph (249 km/h). The X6’s towing capacity is up to 7,200 pounds (3,265 kg).
Both the inline-6 and V8 modifications utilize an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
Equipment and technologies
Standard interior equipment includes a 2.5-zone automatic climate control, a newly developed panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, a unique 7-channel amplifier, wireless charging.
A double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension add agility, while an optional Dynamic Handling package adds performance upgrades like active roll stabilization and active steering.
Innovative driver assistance systems include as standard the cruise control with braking function, collision and pedestrian warning, Parking Assistant (with a rear-view camera), BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional (part of operation system), Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system.
Digital services include the Connected Package Professional (Remote Services, the Concierge Service and Real Time Traffic Information), BMW Digital Key, Remote Software Upgrade.
