The new 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback with a hybrid powertrain enters the market of Australia and New Zealand in August. For now, the next details about the most popular model in the world have become known.
All versions of the new Corolla hatchback will be hybrid. Apparently, the automaker was inspired by the success of the hybrid Camry, which accounts for 40% of the model sales.
The base Toyota Corolla hybrid is equipped with the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. It includes a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that runs on the Atkinson cycle and has improved refinement. It is paired with two new motor generators and a new e-CVT.
The new car also got a fresh battery and power control unit. The petrol engine of 98 hp and with 142 Nm of torque is significantly upgraded. The electric motor develops 72 hp and 163 Nm, and the hybrid powertrain in total – 122 hp, which is 14 hp less than the outgoing model.
At the same time, fuel consumption is reduced by 0.1 l / 100 km and, as claimed, is 4.2 l / 100 km on the combined cycle.
Prices and trim levels will be announced later. In 2019, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SUV will also join the hybrid segment of the Down Under market.
