2019 Tesla Model 3 Won a Safety Award From IIHS

The 2019 Tesla Model 3 has been scored the highest Top Safety Pick+ rating of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

This is the first full-fledge award from this authoritative American organization which a Tesla car wins.

Last year IIHS already tested the Tesla Model 3, but didn’t release a full set of scores.

As for the Model S, the 2017 vehicle could not win, the 2018 car’s scores have not been listed yet. The Tesla Model X hasn’t ever been tested by the agency.

Apart from the Model 3, the IIHS winners among EVs are the Audi e-tron and the Hyundai Nexo.

The Tesla Model 3 earned high marks in all types of crash tests, including a difficult headlight assessment.

The car’s standard front crash prevention system showed a perfect operation and let the Tesla Model 3 receive the highest “Superior” rating. The vehicle was able to avoid crashes in the 12- and 25-mph tests.
