Volkswagen Is Working On American Rival For Jeep Renegade
Recently Volkswagen has introduced the new T-Cross compact crossover. As confirmed by the company, this model will not be offered in the United States.
Howbeit, it does not mean that Volkswagen will not offer an entry-level crossover in North America, where this market segment grows. For example, last year Jeep sold more than 100,000 Renegades in the USA. So, Volkswagen clearly wants to get a piece of this pie.
However, currently the most affordable VW crossover across the ocean is the Tiguan model priced at 25,000 dollars. In order to fill the gap in its lineup, Volkswagen is working on an all-new SUV especially for the North American market. It’ll be a rival for such models as the Jeep Renegade and Honda HR-V.
There is little information about the upcoming model so far. The MQB platform with a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive are expected. Then, it shouldn’t go on sale before 2020.
The new model may be developed on the T-Roc basis (also unavailable in the USA). At the same time, the American version will be larger than the T-Roc, but smaller than the Tiguan, according to preliminary information.
