Volkswagen Develops A Small All-Electric Crossover For $21,000
Volkswagen continues to bring to life a slogan “Electric For All!” developing a budget subcompact crossover, which will cost around $21,000 (€18,000).
VW’s all-electric family will include several models of different body styles: hatchback, station wagon, mid-size sedan, crossover. We’ve already heard of some of them to be in development: I.D. Neo, I.D. Crozz, I.D. Buzz and I.D. Vizzion.
The affordable small crossover is being rumored about, but not still confirmed by the carmaker officially. On November 16, 2018, the meeting of Volkswagen’s supervisory board will take place, at which they may take decision as for the new e-SUV.
We should not expect it‘ll be a vehicle with a powerful 64-kWh battery and a 258-mile (415 km) driving range, like the Hyundai Kona Electric, given it is claimed to be a cheap variant.
If all works out, the company will likely organize the crossover’s production at the Emden plant where the VW Passat is now built.
For this Volkswagen should think of new hires to have enough jobs for EV manufacture. The targeted volume of production is about 200,000 units per year.
We expect more clarity into the situation after the next-week meeting of the company bosses.
