The new Land Rover Defender will be presented in 2020. The manufacturer confirmed development of the next-generation Defender. Sales will also start in 2020, the Land Rover’s press service informed.
All information about the SUV is kept secret. According to Autocar, the next Land Rover Defender will be built on aluminum architecture. The SUV will inherit many components and technical solutions from other current cars of the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) alliance.
The company plans to sell about 10,000 new Defenders per year. Customers will be offered three- and five-door versions included open-top one, as well as luxury and off-road modifications.
The motor range will probably include petrol and diesel turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter units, as well as 3.0-liter V6 engines. An electric version of the model is also expected.
The Land Rover Defender pickup will arrive too. Earlier it was reported that such a car was considered by the company as a rival to the Model X. Ingenium 2.0-liter petrol and diesel engines will be used in it.
The Defender pickup will go on sale only in a single cabin version. It will have several variants including luxury. The car maker is going to produce it at the plant in Slovakia.
Production of the current-generation Land Rover Defender was discontinued in January 2016. The British manufacturer has repeatedly stated about the intention to cease its release.
