Skoda Will Replace Rapid With All-New Scala
Skoda has revealed the name of a model which replaces Rapid hatchback in the brand’s lineup. It’s about the Skoda Scala (‘ladder’ from Latin), which will be a direct rival to the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Astra.
This will be the first Skoda car on the VW’s MQB A0 platform and with the brand’s name instead of the logo on the trunk lid. The five-door model is an all-new development in terms of style and technology.
It arrives late this year and takes the place between the Fabia and Octavia in the Skoda model range. Recently the automaker released a sketch, which hints on the future Scala and reminds of the Skoda Vision RS concept.
Skoda has endowed its new hatchback with a next-generation infotainment system and many advanced driver assists. The motor range will include 1.0-1.5-liter petrols and diesels with capacity of 84, 109, 148 hp. No hybrid or electric modifications are expected.
We’d like to add, that the Rapid is the Skoda’s second global best-selling car after the Octavia. Last year they sold 211,000 units.
