Seat Discontinues Production Of The Three-Door Seat Leon
Seat discontinues production of the three-door Seat Leon SC. This car has become the latest in a series of models the VW Group took off sale.
Earlier the carmaker decided to cease releasing a three-door Mii hatchback due to low demand. Unlike the Seat Mii, the Leon enjoys a stable demand in the European market.
The Spanish brand sold 145,000 units of the model in 2017, including the three-door version. It was a small increase compared to 2016.
Seat follows the general trend to abandon three-door models. Across the last 2 years, the Volkswagen Group’s brands have discontinued or announced the stop of such cars production. Among them there are the Volkswagen Beetle, Polo, Scirocco and Up.
Audi abandoned the three-door modifications of the A1 and A3. The same happened with the Opel Astra GTC and the Peugeot 208. The next generations of the Volkswagen Golf will be five-door only. The Skoda Citigo is nearing the end of its life.
The peak of three-door hatchbacks came in the late 90’s early 2000’s, but now the demand for such cars is steadily falling.
