The BMW 1-Series is the popular compact sedan which is on sale since 2016. In the middle of its life circle the carmaker has made a traditional refresh of the model.
The carparazzi has recently photographed a test prototype. The fascias in front and rear look different, the optics seem to change inside.
The 1-Series sedan in put on BMW’s UKL front-wheel-drive platform, the modified variant of which – FAAR – is used for the BMW 1-Series Hatchback, a next-year debutant, as well as a new 2-Series Gran Coupe.
The current model is available with three powertrains. The high-end motor in the range is a 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder turbocharged one producing 231 hp. It is still unknown if the updated car will get new powertrains.
Currently offered in China, the BMW 1-Series in its new iteration may appear In the US car market, if only the carmaker takes the appropriate decision.
In the USA, it could challenge to the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan and the Audi A3. For this market BMW is preparing the 2-Series Gran Coupe of similar size to debut next year as a 2020 model. It’ll be a rival for the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
