New All-electric Brand Rivian Plans To Launch Its Third Model
After bright premieres of a pickup truck and a SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the new all-electric brand Rivian plans to launch its third model – a rally-styled and high-performance one. What is known about this mysterious car for now?
The basis for the new Rivian vehicle will be a universal ‘skateboard’ architecture. The model has a smaller wheelbase, but a large ground clearance. As the other Rivians, it will offer off-road capability in combination with a ‘unique-in-its space’ functionality.
Rivian will assemble the new model at a former Mitsubishi plant. The rally car goes on sale presumably in 2021.
The manufacturer wants to offer its original chassis to other makers. It can be used for different types of vehicles, even public transport. So, as development of a new architecture is expensive, Rivian hopes to find purchasers for its universal modular platform.
The brand is not going to produce mass cars and focuses on limited volumes. The potential sales markets are the North America, China, Europe, Australia, South Africa.
Rivian will sell its cars directly to customers in places where they are in demand. Moreover, it will have partners in some markets, including for servicing.
