Ford Started Production Of Transit-Based Electric Vans

Production of all-electric vans based on the Ford Transit model started at the Ford’s car factory in Cologne (Germany). The customer is Deutsche Post DHL.

The StreetScooter WORK XL electric van is built on the basis of the Ford Transit. The cargo compartment volume is 20 m³ (about 200 parcels). The carrying capacity reaches 1,275 kg.

The chassis will be delivered from Turkey from the Ford Otosan.joint venture. Ford offers several variants of electric motors and accumulators of different capacities for electric vans.

The engine output is 122 hp, the torque is 276 Nm. The WORK XL will be able to drive 200 km on a single charge of a 76 kWh battery.

The carmaker plans to produce 3,500 electric vans anually. Deutsche Post DHL will use the StreetScooter WORK XL to deliver mail in Germany itself. Moreover, supply of green vans to other customers is possible in the future too.

We’d like to remind that at the recent IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover Ford introduced the first van with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Transit Custom PHEV’s electric range is 50 km.

The hybrid van has got a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine. It works exclusively for generating electricity and increases the overall autonomy reserve to 500 km.
