Ford Develops A Serious Rival For Hyundai Kona
Sales of crossovers have been growing steadily around the world. Compact and subcompact SUVs are especially popular. Ford doesn’t intend to ignore the trend. Development of a new model to compete with the Korean Hyundai Kona and Kia Stonic, as well as the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, Toyota CH-R, is in full swing.
There is a subcompact EcoSport SUV in the Ford lineup. This is a global well-sold model. For example, almost 55,000 buyers chose it in the USA in 2018 (5th place in the segment).
The above-mentioned Hyundai Kona comes the 7th and is a bit inferior to the Ford EcoSport and Toyota CH-R.
The EcoSport alone is not enough, since it is more practical than visually attractive, and the model’s dynamics leaves much to be desired. That is why, an all-new crossover is being created, the prototypes of which have been photographed by spies several times.
In particular, the other day one of the test prototypes was seen on city streets. Apparently, the new vehicle is designed on the same platform on which the latest Fiesta is built. The test car is camouflaged, although some elements indicate that much is carried over from the new Focus. It would be strange, if it were otherwise.
As for the Ford Fiesta, it is an excellent base for the crossover. The model still has an Active version, but it is rather a SUV-like stylization.
The new model will hardly replace the EcoSport. Their simultaneous production looks more realistic.
