First Images Of Skoda Kodiaq GT Crossover Coupe Appeared
Skoda has released the first images of its new Kodiaq GT crossover, a coupe-like version of the Czech brand’s flagship.
The Skoda Kodiaq GT has been developed for the Chinese market. The carmaker will produce and sell it only there, at least in the foreseeable future.
The coupe-like Kodiaq is a product of the SAIC- Skoda joint venture. It is expected to go on sale in China by the end of 2018. The SUV coupe is based on a five-door Kodiaq in the edition for the domestic market.
The Kodiaq GT exterior differs from the base car with the sloping rear part of the roof, a new rear door, new bumpers and rear lights, as well as a small rear spoiler.
Currently Skoda does not have plans for selling the Kodiaq in Europe. The production capacity on the continent is fully loaded. The carmaker doesn’t want to import the model from China. The huge market of this country will be enough for start sales.
The Kodiaq GT will strive to occupy a market niche where premium brands are present with such models as the BMW X4, BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé.
Dimensions, price, engines
According to insider information in the Chinese media, the overall dimensions of the new Skoda are 4634 / 1883 / 1649 mm. Thus, the GT version is shorter by 63 mm and lower by 27 mm than the standard model. Prices start from 220,000 yuan (about $32,400).
The powertrain includes two turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engines of 190 and 220 hp combined with a seven-speed double-clutch DSG transmission and front or all-wheel drive.
