BMW Will Launch I4 To ‘Kill’ Tesla Model 3
The first all-electric sedan of BMW – the BMW i4 – should arrive in 2021. It is a model from the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe lineup which will be a rival for Tesla cars, mainly the Model 3.
In March 2018, at the Geneva Motor Show, BMW officially confirmed that it would make a production version of the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept car (pictured) to arrive after the series iX3 and iNEXT SUVs.
The new electric vehicle is a modification of the next-generation BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. The automaker will start to produce it in Munich in 2021.
Today there are more than 300,000 BMW EVs and hybrids on the roads and will be more. The Mini Electric will appear in 2019, the BMW iX3 in 2020.
In 2021 the company introduces the BMW iNEXT and the BMW i4. There will be five electric production cars of the German brand in three years.
The i4 is built on the CLAR platform suitable for various powertrains. The new model will have a more traditional BMW design than the i3 and i8. For example, the iX3 is an e-model, but still a X3. It’ll be the same with the BMW i4 – it is the 4-Series.
The main competitors of the BMW i4 on the market are the Tesla Model 3 and Model S electric sedans. BMW promises that its new car’s driving range will be 600 km. The upcoming iNEXT will have even more.
