Mazda has confirmed the debut of its all-new Mazda 3 at the Auto Show in Los Angeles. The event opens its doors on November 30 and lasts till December 10, 2018.
A fresh teaser image proves that a Mazda 3 Fastback will be unveiled alongside the new hatchback. The model of the next fourth generation enters the market next year and gets new petrol motors. It may mean that diesel era comes to its end for Mazda.
By its sharp style, the forthcoming car seems to base on the KAI concept shown in Tokyo last year. The automaker worked well on upgrades so to put the hatchback higher on the market and make it able to compete with the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class.
The new Mazda 3 is the first to receive the brand’s fully new improved SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture which supports a low sporty seating position and is fit for a new engine technology.
The advanced SkyActiv-X petrol engine features Spark Controlled Compression Ignition. Thus, it can work in two separate states.
Conventional petrol engine-style combustion remains for spark plugs. The motor is also able to switch to diesel-style compression ignition.
So, Mazda’s 2.0-liter supercharged SkyActiv-X will combine the petrol-like performance with the fuel economy of a diesel, as it can run on a leaner air-fuel mixture. The technology allows produce 190 hp and 230 Nm of torque.
Mazda will offer two more motors in addition for its new generation 3: an entry-level SkyActiv-G petrol and a SkyActiv-D diesel variant.
